Nursery contributed plant descriptions

From the heart of Texas' Edward's Plateau comes this alkaline tolerant selection of Buttonbush with slightly narrower foliage with a bronze to gray cast. Like the species it produces tight, white to cream colored, rounded Sputnik-like flowers in late spring and summer that attract an array of butterflies, bees, and garden beneficials with its sweet, honey colored nectar. The Buttonbush is a vigorous, medium-sized to large growing, deciduous shrub that does best in consistently moist soils with most of a day of sunlight. A moderate to severe annual pruning of established plants in late winter helps to promote fuller plants and the most flowers. Buttonbush is generally found growing near streams, ponds, ditches and other consistently moist sites. It can have its trunks submerged along the edges or is generally growing close enough to get its roots directly in the water source. It can be successfully grown in average garden soils provided that you give it extra moisture during dry periods. In warmer southern regions it is known to reach 12-20' high but in colder northern climates it generally doesn't exceed 6' high.
