Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A compact growing selection of the Florida Anise with the same deep-red, star shaped flowers, to 2" across, are borne in late spring and early summer on a dense evergreen shrub. Medium green leaves have a licorice scent when crushed. Red Anise is an understory native in the southeastern portion of the US and generally prefers light or filtered shade over full sun and a moist well-draining acid soil. There seems to be very little information available about the Coosa Red Florida Anise beyond the fact that it is a compact growing form of this beautiful evergreen native shrub. During dry periods this plant may require extra moisture especially during the initial establishment period.
