Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A supersweet corn for those of you who like it sweet. No need to have the pot boiling before harvesting these ears. Growing supersweets in cooler short season areas has had a catch; the need for very warm soil temperatures. A recent improvement, “Strong Start’ germinates well in cooler temperatures and it also matures earlier than regular supersweets. Plant the seedlings 2 feet apart in blocks to ensure good pollination, and keep the soil well fertilized and watered. Expect 7’ tall plants, each with two 8” bicolored cobs. It is important that you grow these supersweet corn plants at least 25’ away from regular corn; if the two types cross, the flavor will not be sweet. But if they stay true to type: yum!
