Nursery contributed plant descriptions

While so many ground covers disappoint (too tall, too slow to spread, or bedeviled by ugly dead looking patches) Falkia repens is rewarding year-round, year after year, with a lush and fast growing, weed-suppressing, dense EVERGREEN carpet of glossy rounded foliage, staying only 2-4” tall by about 3’ wide. Called “Little Ears” in its native South Africa, its thick mat is made up of diminutive stacks of charming little cupped shaped leaves, which are bedecked with masses of sweet 1.5” fluted starry white or pink flowers from early Spring thru Summer! Low maintenance and easy to grow, it is one of the hardiest and most reliable of all ground covers plus absolutely gorgeous between stepping stones, edging a garden bed, or spilling over rock walls and containers. Bees and other beneficial insects love it! Does need fast draining soil (no clay, please!) and will have a larger bloom and healthier foliage if given a boost of well-balanced organic fertilizer or compost in early Spring.
