Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This exciting new cultivar of “Dutch Iris” features a lovely contrast between purplish-blue upper petals and subtle bronze falls splashed with dramatic gold throats. The large 4-5” flowers appear in late Spring, two to three flowers per stem, rising a full 18”! They are great interplanted with Daffodils and Tulips, which will just be finishing as the Iris opens. When planted en masse it adds a picturesque vertical show in a sunny bed. Given their tall stems and prolific blooming, it makes a great cut flower. With little care, it will naturalize in your garden. Bulbs can be dug up and divided after 3-5 years to maintain vigor. Prefers fertile, well-drained pH neutral soil and full sun. Plant bulbs 3-4” deep, with a bit of bone meal or bulb food in the hole. As plants bloom, a bit of bloom fertilizer may be added. Let foliage wither on its own for best blooms next year. Bees and butterflies may be regular callers!
