Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Since “Golden-eyed Phlox”, a high country Texas annual, is found growing only on rocky limestone or sandy soil I didn’t have high hopes for its success here in the Bay Area but decided to experiment with it anyway. What a surprise!Grow it in very well-drained soil with a bit of compost side-dressing and bang, it turns out like this! Plentiful eye-candy saturated fuchsia pink blooms 1.5” across boast contrasting white centers highlighted by a conspicuous golden eye. What’s more, it bloomed (here with Chrysocephalum apiculatum 'Silver Sunburst') from April thru July! And with its neat 12” x 12” habit, it’s a treat for the front of a bed, rock gardens, meadows and containers. Said to tolerate low water and clay, but probably wouldn’t look this awesome.
