Vernonia baldwinii is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In summer magenta and purple flowers emerge. Attracts bees, beneficial insects, butterflies and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular water. Super duper butterfly magnet!!! Tough as nails, this tap-rooted Midwestern prairie native is adapted to extreme heat, cold, drought, both poor and clay soil and is deer and rabbit resistant! A plant-and-forget hero in any garden that should be more widely known! Numerous flat-topped panicles 6” across present 15-35 fluffy purple 1” flowers from June/July to Sept. atop strong upright stems. 4-5’ tall x 3-4’ across. Deciduous, so cut back to the ground in late Fall/Winter.
