Nursery contributed plant descriptions

New for 2015! An EXTREMELY RARE show-stopper of a Sage from Jalisco & Michoacan in Mexico. Luscious upright magenta spikes 10-16" long(!) deliver big thrills from fall thru spring. Large fuzzy green heart-shaped leaves edged in magenta deliver great drama &, bonus, they turn magenta in cool weather! Great for filling in a part-shade corner of the garden or outside a window where the huge richly-colored bloom spikes covered in happy hummingbirds will cheer you thru the holiday season. Cut back after bloom finishes to keep bushy. Grows to about 7’ tall & wide, but can be pruned to maintain a shorter stature. Since it’s so new we aren’t sure about the minimum USDA zone, but it breezed through our 2014-15 Winter frosts here in USDA zone 9b with minimal protection.
