Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The pale blue flowers of Salvia munzii are quite lovely, but when this variant with dark blue flowers showed up among our seedlings, it caused quite a stir. We promptly decided that it had to be introduced and shared with other gardeners. Sometimes you just want something really BLUE. In all other ways it appears to share all the virtues of our light blue, seedling grown plants. Compact and upright, it grows 4-6’ tall and wide and blooms profusely in late Spring and Summer. It is semi- deciduous, which means that if grown very dry, the plant will protect itself by dropping its leaves in the Fall. However, it will stay evergreen if watered and unlike many other CA sages, it is quite tolerant of some summer/fall watering and less than perfect drainage. A good choice for wild landscaping as well mixed gardens.
