Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Superior in flavor & RELIABLY PERENNIAL – this permaculture garden must-have is also known as “bunching onions” or “scallions”. Enjoy fresh green onions all year – you don’t even need to dig up the whole plant, just harvest the greens as needed & leave the bulb. Usually mild, they can be spicier during the summer & sweeter when grown in fertile soil. Once mature the plants reproduce by seed & side shoots, so you’ll end up with bunches of self-perpetuating green onions you can dig up & replant forever. For long pale stems, pile up soil around the base. Blooms in its second year – the immature flower stalks have a unique sweet flavor & can be used as chives. Winter dormant.
