Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This low growing “Rolling Hens and Chicks” features 2” apple green rosettes that sparkle in the sun! These symmetrical rosettes look charmingly like tiny spiral aloes and they offset freely, making for an ever expanding colony. Individual leaves are spatulate and fleshy, curving upwards and held tightly together. Red tips offer a striking contrast. From June to August, ½” pale greenish-yellow 6-petaled flowers arise on short stalks. This drought tolerant succulent is perfect for a rock garden or in a mixed succulent bowl but is also showy enough to command its own decorative pot. The mother plant is monocarpic but the plant self-propagates through globe-shaped offsets (“globi”) that detach easily and “roll” away, leading to this plant’s common name. Plant in well-drained soil with plenty of pumice in sun or part sun. Protect from winter rains and severe freezes.
