Nursery contributed plant descriptions

New for 2017! Collected in 2001 by the indefatigable Panayoti Kelaidis – Senior Curator at the Denver Botanical Garden - in the Himalayas of Pakistan and shared with us by Derick Pitman aka “Mr. Impatiens”, we were delighted by the color, size and form of this lovely new Impatiens. Well displayed atop a nice branching habit attractive foliage, the blooms are of a nice size – up to 2” and bear a pleasing color combo of pink “helmets” atop veined golden throats. Not to get lost in the garden, it reaches 3’ tall and blooms from late Spring thru Summer. Much like “Poor Man’s Orchid”, Impatiens balfourii it’s A SNAP TO GROW in bright to mid shade, loving rich soil and average water, though it puts up with lesser treatment. And like I. balfourii it self-sows enthusiastically for freebies and give-aways. Grow it as a “welcome home” charmer by your front door, in shady corners you don’t have time to fuss over, or a large sized (10+gal) pot.
