Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This stunning endangered aloe from the mountains of Lesotho (the mountain kingdom surrounded by South Africa) features light green leaves arranged in a spiral that becomes more and more pronounced as the plant matures. In its native habitat it experiences sharp drainage, winter frosts and snow, and cool summers with ample moisture. Plant on a slope in full to partial sun in very well-drained soil or in a pot. It is hardy in zones 7b to 9. Our plants are grown from tissue culture.
A unique and distinctive aloe with leaves arranged in a neat and almost ridiculously photogenic spiral pattern reaching three feet in width. Our plants are young, and not showing the beautiful mature form yet, but should in the next year or two. Once they do, we'll probably sell out in a flash, so think about picking one up now. Totally tender, you'll need to bring it in before frost, but like most succulents, pretty easy to overwinter indoors in a sunny windowsill if you keep it very dry and on the cool side. Well worth the trouble too - mature plants will stop even non-plant people in their tracks. Zone 11.
Blooms: summer, orange/ evergreen blue-green spiral foliage Zone 7-9. 12", South Africa, part shade-sun, moist-dry, well drained
The spiral of grey green leaves on an older specimen is mesmerizing. Protect from hot afternoon sun. Give it a well drained mix in a handsome pot.
One of the most endangered Aloe species, endemic to the high plains of the landlocked South African country of Lesotho at over 10,000 ft. Succulent leaves, pointed and toothed, form a single rosette, to 1' tall x 1-2' wide, developing a wonderfully distinct spiral pattern as plants mature. Pink flowers appear on a 2' stem in early summer. Best in cool sun or part shade with abundant summer water. Accustomed to damp summers and dry winters, it is also one of the hardiest aloes, to 10 °F, the bottom of USDA zone 8 and lower if kept dry in the winter.
The wonderful Spiral Aloe from Lesotho, the plant develops a beautiful spiral shape with age. It's very hardy, reportedly to 15 °F.
