Nursery contributed plant descriptions

New for 2013! Collected from 6500’, we are stoked to offer this exceptionally rare, massively floriferous, EASY Calceolaria or “pocketbook flower” from Chile. Native to a dry rocky montane region, in its natural habitat it’s said to grow to only 1’ tall. Well, here at Annie’s we fed & watered it to see what would happen & to our delight we watched it grow to a fantastic 30” x 30” & explode into a massive display of red throated .75” “pocketbooks” - up to 100 blooms per upright red branching stem & there were a lot of stems! They are held well above the nice looking fuzzy evergreen (in mild climates) low foliage. Fascinating & exotic Choice for tropicalesque gardens. Best in rich well-drained soil. Hardy to at least 23°F. Tolerates short periods of snow cover.
