This charming-yet-unassuming member of the legume Family is a hidden superstar! Lovely, lively-green ferny foliage branches to 6” across on sturdy, lateral stems that grow to 2’ - sporting delightful yellow, pea-shaped flowers in late Spring. But the REAL star of this show is the taproot! Astragalus has been used for centuries in Chinese Traditional Medicine, known as “King of Tonic Herbs” it is harvested, dried & made into tea or tincture. “Huang Qi” is often used medicinally as an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory & immune booster, among other things**. A very sturdy plant, it prefers dry, sandy soil with good drainage. A full sun lover, it grows in partial shade as well. Perfect to plant in a border or herb garden, it makes a fabulous container plant – making root harvest even easier!
