Nursery contributed plant descriptions

We are so thrilled to finally have enough of this rarely seen, incredibly beautiful super long blooming cut flower extraordinaire! Alstroemerias, make exceptionally long lasting cut flowers (up to two weeks in a vase!) and “Jupiter” produces countless clusters of dramatic colored florist sized 3” cream splotched rosy-violet blooms all the way from late Spring to Fall on sturdy, disease resistant upright stalks flanked by soft green foliage (3’x2’). The outer petals sport short brown dashes as a runway to guide hummingbirds, butterflies and other winged pollinators straight to their pollen coated anthers! Growing by tubers, these elegant deer resistant, easy to grow “Peruvian Lilies” will quickly send up new shoots and blooms if you pull the entire stem from the ground when harvesting cut flowers, which encourages spreading (more cut flowers!) but if you want to control spread, cut them as you would any vase-worthy flower stem. Or grow them in a large container (20”+ diameter) or a half wine barrel. Provide well-draining soil and average water in a mostly sunny spot with a generous serving of Spring compost for heaviest bloom.
