Little known, rarely offered, hardy gloxinia! Perennial with sprawling, relaxed stems to 2’ high and 2 ½' wide topped with 2" pink trumpets summer till fall. Sun to light shade, good drainage, average water – nice filler between shrubs or larger perennials.
A deceptively delicate looking shrub, happy in any impoverished soil, with or without root competition, preferably quite dry and well drained, in bright or dark shade, though less likely to flower well in the later. Alkaline soil or even pure limestone are to it's liking though it seems quite content in acid soil. Given adequate drainage it will grow rapidly, forming a loose bush of glossy, dark green, pinnate leaves, flowering constantly through the warmer months of the year with racemes of 2.5cm wide, pale pink, trumpet shaped flowers, in all likelihood self seeding into paving cracks and other inconvenient places, from which it's happily transplanted when very young. Dead head to promote flowering but only prune back old spent stems when new basal growth has matured, or else risk a fine specimens premature demise.

Evergreen subshrub with divided almost fern-like foliage and trumpet-shaped rich pink flowers. This species blooms throughout the summer and tolerates poor, rocky soils as well as moderate watering during the summer. Plants grow to 3' tall with a lesser spread. Hardy to 10F.
From the western Himalayas comes this dainty species, not as hardy as I. delavayi, and with a much finer texture to the pinnate leaves; the flowers, too, are smaller and a softer mauve-pink. Sun-PSh/Med
A sub-shrub with hundreds of large pale pink penstemon-like tubular flowers from July through September and beautiful glossy, ferny, finely-cut foliage on arching stems. From Nepal and Yunnan province in China where it grows on plateaus on dry slopes and cliffs. Can be grown as a very worthwhile Tender Perennials in colder zones. AKA, Chinese Trumpet Flower. Relatives, not of Gloxinia or gesnariads but rather cousins to Campsis and Bignonia or trumpet vines. Water well during growth. Little water in winter. May be grown in a pot and brought in for winter as well. Becomes woody and shrubby with age. *Grows outside for our friend in Staunton, VA zone 6B and reported Zone 5 per MOBOT.

Loads of fragrant, soft pink, flaring trumpets & elegant finely cut foliage make this rare Chinese sub-shrub a sophisticated highlight in the Summer garden. Most luxurious when grown in part sun & rich soil, it creates a busy 3’ x 3’ form. From July till October, the Penstemon-like flowers are held gracefully on many arching 7” stems. Cutting back spent blooms keeps’em coming like crazy. Prune the whole plant back to about 10” tall in Fall to keep its lovely form & prevent woodiness.
