Hesperaloe parviflora is a hummingbird's favorite that produces tall spikes of reddish-pink flowers that continue to bloom all summer. This yucca-like evergreen perennial succulent is stemless with clumps of arching and spreading grass-like foliage 3 to 4 feet tall.
Native to the Chihuahuan desert in west Texas and north Mexico this evergreen perennial succulent forms interesting clumps of narrow yucca-like foliage. Gorgeous deep-pink tubular flowers rise on 4-6' spikes appearing in summer in cold climates and nearly year-round in warm climates.The blooms are very attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. These wonderfully easy-care plants can handle drought, clay, pollution rabbit and deer! These are nice when massed and also good for containers. S/D/GDr
Hesperaloe is a close relative of Yucca with long, arching, narrow foliage that forms an open clump. In summer red yucca produces tall wands of waxy, coral red flowers with yellow throats that are popular with hummingbirds. To encourage bloom, plant in the hottest, sunniest spots. A yellow flowered form also exists.
The slender, dark blue-green, 60cm long, extremely stiff leaves, usually with white edges and filaments (like cotton threads), form dense, grass-like clumps. Bearing in early Summer and often again in Autumn. 1.2m tall, slender, branching stems of many, long lasting, pale red to burgundy, tubular flowers. Native to Texas and northern Mexico, making it very drought hardy, although water in Summer encourages growth and flowers. A dense planting makes an excellent discouragement to foot traffic, not to mention being absolutely stunning when in flower.

A rugged succulent perennial looking like a cross between an aloe and a yucca, the red yucca makes an excellent container plant or dramatic specimen in the dry garden. Plants form an upright clump of stiff, linear dark green leaves bearing fine, white threads at the margins and tall stalks of fleshy red and gold flowers in summer.
