    Rosa sericea f. pteracantha is a broadleaf deciduous shrub with green foliage. In fall, spring and summer white flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Attracts bees and beneficial insects making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in acidic, average, clay, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant and humidity tolerant.

    This amazing 8' rose shrub from China must be seen to be believed! Not actually grown for its abundant and lovely cream-colored, four-petaled roses, it is the striking, enormous, red-winged thorns that make this plant so interesting; when the sun shines through them they truly glow and it is a sight to behold. Ferny foliage with more than eleven leaflets and pretty red hips only add to the picture; makes an incredible specimen with its architectural arching branches. S/M

    The Wing Thorn rose has large red translucent thorns. Can get to 15' but becomes dull with brown thorns. We cut down in March to 18" and all the new stems are covered with ruby red thorns. No flowers as the flowers appear on 2 old stems. Great plant for the sun to come through the thorns.

    Every rose has its thorns, but how many roses would you grow JUST for its prickliest feature? Here's your one and only: the "Wingthorn Rose" - when backlit, the ostentatious thorns glow blood red the whole length of the stem. Easily one of the most interesting barrier plants I've ever met, it's a super-tough shrub & provides all season interest with its red Fall hips. Lightly fragrant single white flowers to 2" across are a pleasant plus in late Spring. To have the bloodiest show of thorns, prune the plants severely in Winter to force more new growth, as the color of the thorns will fade as the growing season wears on, and the ferny foliage of the plant fills in. Unmanaged, it will grow 6' x 6' with a large "V" shape at maturity. Deciduous & as far as roses go, this one's as disease free as can be! From China.
