    Garrya buxifolia (x elliptica) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In spring, summer and winter flowers emerge followed by purple and red fruit. Features glossy texture. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Adapts to various soil conditions. A good option if you're seeking something pollution tolerant and seaside / salt tolerant.

    This union between two west coast natives, A garden hybrid of the dwarfy California G. buxifolia (mom) and a nearby G. eliptica (dad). Seedlings have shown smaller rounded and silvery-backed leaves of the former and a faster growth rate (and presumably, larger ultimate size) of the latter. These represent our first crop from seed so ultimate size is estimated 6-8ft. with 5-6ft. spread.Pleasing deep green leaves and dangling tassel flowers mid to late winter. Sun to part shade with occasional summer water to establish, drought tolerant thereafter. Cold hardy to 10º USDA zone 8.
