A very exotic, evergreen, woody vine native to the rainforests of Chile, which slowly grows to a general length of 8 feet. Though, if given the opportunity to climb a nearby tree, it may reach much farther. It may also be left to beautifully mound. 1.5in velvety orange-red, tubular flowers bloom in early spring, and continue through summer. In some locations, under the right conditions flowers may appear throughout the entire year! Expect pollinators of all kinds to delight in visiting the fetching blooms of this fanciful vine. Acidic, well-drained and consistently moist soils are preferred. Hardy to zone 8, but may also grow well in protected areas in zone 7.
Scampering about in the understory moist woodland areas of Chileas it does may give you an idea of the conditions this Mitraria likes. Its bright orange tubular flowers will make you think you've gone on vacation! 2 ft tall and spreading, it can also be satisfied in a pot. Minimum temperature: 10°F
This charming but uncommon Chilean and Argentinian shrub offers tubular firey orange flowers and evergreen foliage on red stems for the shadier parts of the garden. It will likely bloom in mid to late spring and perhaps intermittently thereafter until September.
A climbing perennial herb or subshrub from Chile with dense tangled branches, and lustrous dark green leaves. The solitary tubular flowers are a bright scarlet. Makes a nice hanging basket and humming birds love it.

We are very fond of this plant from Chile where it can scramble up into trees quite a ways and the branchlets poking out into the sun are studded with glowing brick orange 1.5" trumpets. We've also seen it kept as a loose mound in full sun literally covered in flowers.
Ooh, it's a hardy gesneriad! If you don't know what that is, you should get one and find out! This plant, though attractive, looks rather innocuous at first, with its small, bright green evergreen leaves. As such, it provides no hint of the spectacle of surprisingly large, screaming red tubular flowers with yellow centers that it produces every year in early summer! A trailing subshrub, it will behave something like a small Fuchsia, though it tends to sprawl and take root as it goes. From temperate rainforests of Chile, it will appreciate moist, acidic, well-drained soil; and shelter from summer heat. It can be trained on a small fence, or, if your climate is wet enough, grow it as an epiphyte! At 15 °F, it may be heavily damaged, but it recovers very quickly from temperatures to at least 10 °F.
Gesneriaceae. Tubular reddish-orange flowers.
