Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The variable, silvery mottled, arrow-shaped leaves on this low growing Viola alone, make it a worthwhile addition to any shade garden. And then in mid Summer you get yellow flowers as a bonus.
Viola hastata is an eastern US native violet with cheerful bright yellow flowers with thin, purple-black brush strokes near the throat. The distinctive leaves have heart-shaped bases elongating into a spear-like point. They are beautifully silver-mottled with each plant offering slightly different patterns. This is a violet with a difference. It is also said to be easy to grow and well-behaved and won't spread around the garden.
