Salvia 'Ember's Wish' is not likely to be hardy for most people but the hummingbirds are begging for it. They really are! Large, bright coral-red flowers are produced all summer long atop scented foliage. Drought and heat tolerant so its blooms will not fade in the heat. Ornamental sages are useful for full to part sun locations. Grow in a protected location against the house or in a pot that can be protected in winter or treat as an annual. Customers return every year to buy this plant as well as 'Love and Wishes' and 'Amistad' because they are so good at attracting hummers.
The Wish Collection of Salvias, hailing from Australia, made an appearance on the west coast a few years ago, and have been getting noticed by all who are looking for long blooming pollinator plants. 'Ember's Wish' has striking orange red tubular flowers accented by pronounced plum red calyces. Outdoor hardy in zones 9-10, but its long bloom period makes it exceptional as a seasonal plant for containers or gardens in colder climates. Can grow 3-4’ once established but expect growth of 24-30” the first season. Plant in well drained soil, sun.
