Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Erythronium revolutum has beautiful mottled foliage topped with light to mid pink, lily-like flowers in spring. Very special. Plant in a woodland setting or shade border with moisture retentive, fertile soil. Erythroniums will go dormant before summer so plant them near late-emerging perennials like hostas and toadlilies. Common on Vancouver Island where colonies can bloom in the thousands but rare elsewhere in BC, its range extends southward to California. Pollinated by native bumblebees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds.
Whether you're inclined to call this a trout lily, dog-tooth violet, fawn lily or something else entirely, it's still a perfect little woodland flower. Sweet, remarkably sturdy (it can pretty much take care of itself) and fleeting (bulbs are only available for a few weeks), Mahogany Fawn lilies are tailor-made for that shady spot under that old oak. This variety of fawn lily has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
