Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Ikandi Japanese Maple is a wonderfully variegated cultivar. The reticulated leaves emerge almost pink in spring before developing green and white around the veining. The green and white remain for summer followed by oranges and reds in fall. The variegation develops more on Ikandi Japanese Maple as it matures. Protect from the hot afternoon son, but some morning sun will help with the variegation.
A dwarf maple with pink color and petite leaves. Somewhat globose in habit and highly sought-after by collectors
Was discovered by Talon Buchholz in Gaston, Or. This small upright grower will eventually get 10-12'x4' in many years. The leaves are very small and are pinkish, red in spring. Is a seedling of A p. 'Alpenweiss'. Named by our friend, Bob Baltzer in Pleasant hill, OR . Limited
Ikandi is an upright dwarf Japanese Maple with variegated pink-red stripes on the leaves in spring – an offspring of Acer palmatum Alpenweiss, but with larger leaves and better color. In summer the foliage changes to green with pale white stripes. Fall color is gold to pink to scarlet. This maple prefers partial shade in the afternoon. Morning sun is best. Estimated height in 10 years is 4′ tall by 3′ wide. Once established Ikandi is hardy to -10 degrees – USDA zone 6. The name is pronounced ‘eye candy’.And like any Japanese Maple some pruning is necessary to form the structure of the tree and to remove dead branches. Pruning is acceptable any time of the year, but spring before the leaves open is the best time to prune because it is easy to see the branches and overall structure of the maple. Discovered and introduced by the Flora Wonder ™ Collection at Buchholz Nursery. One of the newest and most desired Japanese Maples.Very limited availability, very rare.
