Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hydrangea arborescens 'Haas Halo' offers stunning 14 inch wide lace cap blooms with pure white sterile florets surrounding greenish fertile florets. This is a unique form of the species which usually offers just mopheads. The foliage is thick and blue-green. Bushy and upright, with stronger stems to resist flopping and sterile florets that last from June to August, it is a graceful choice. The arborescens group native to North America is exceptionally hardy and easy going but like other hydrangeas requires good moisture to thrive in full sun.

Two years ago, horticultural friends came back from a Pennsylvania gardens visit and raved about this new arborescens selection! It's super hardy…to zone 3 and the biggest plus, it has sturdy branches that don't flop with the weight of huge blossoms. In fact, 'Haas Halo' has really huge white lace cap type blossoms, to 14" across which are complimented by the dark blue green thick textured foliage. Patented and introduced by Plants Nouveau. Shipping gallon pot.

Discovered in 2008 and newly introduced, this spectacular native cultivar sprung up as a chance seedling in a Springfield, PA. garden. ‘Haas’ Halo’ premiers massive 15 in. wide lacecaps with up to 50 good-sized sterile florets surmounting an upright deciduous foundation, whose strong sturdy stems easily support the snowy white extravaganza. Large round pointed leaves don bluish overtones and make a composed leathery green foil for the magnificent flowers that sustain a lovely dried presence some 6 months after they’ve stopped blooming. Though its parentage is uncertain, its stalwart disposition is known to tackle heat, humidity and drought, plus always look fabulous wherever it’s planted. (PPAF)
