Heliophila or Cape Leadwort is part of the Brassica family. Sky blue four-petaled flowers have white corollas in the center of each 1/2” flower. Closing at midday under the stronger summer sun. It can be grown as unusual cut flowers in a winter greenhouse or sown outdoors at the last frost date in cool summer areas for a spring to early summer show. In warmer summer areas sow indoors 6-8 weeks before setting out after frost. Described as new in a 1930s era catalog, it thrives in fertile, moist, well-drained soils.
