Oh, oh, Ozettes! If you're a foodie or frequent farmers markets, you may be familiar with this popular fingerling potato. Prized for it's nutty flavor that some liken to that of a roasted chestnut and it's creamy white, firm texture, this heirloom has been savored for hundreds of years. Ozettes were brought by Spanish explorers from South America to what is now Washington State in the late 1700s, where these 3 to 7 inch spuds have been grown ever since. These thin skinned fingerlings are excellent for steaming, pan-frying or roasting. Ozette potatoes are hard to find in most parts of the country; if you want them (and you do!) grow your own fresh ones. These potatoes are ready to harvest late season. Why Grow Potatoes? For the rich, freshly harvested flavor! Grow varieties that aren't available at the market Choose size, color and use varieties tailored to your favorite recipes Potatoes can be grown in the garden, in tubs, half whiskey barrels, horticultural fabric bags and other large containers - use your imagination!
