Epimedium 'Siskiyou' is a slowly spreading groundcover perennial with small rounded leaves similar in shape to Aspen leaves. In April flowers appear and grow to about a foot taller than the foliage and last for several weeks. By late in the season the leaves begin to contain attractive hues of red, orange, yellow, and bronze that contrast well with darker colored plants such as Purple Leaf Plum or various dark-leaved Coral Bells. The foliage retains this attractive color through the winter until new leaves appear and turn the plant back to deep green.
Despite the delicate appearance, Epimediums are tough and grow well even in difficult sites. After the first year plants are drought tolerant and can survive in areas with tightly packed tree roots where other perennials would suffer. The leaves are tough and are very rarely eaten by deer or other animals, another unusual trait for an evergreen perennial.
