A superb butterfly nectar plant! Masses of large pinkish-purple daisy-like blooms are often born from late spring to fall. An excellent cut flower that can last for up to a week in a vase. These seedlings originated from a vigorous native Louisiana population of this beautiful perennial. A Dawn Stover Nifty Fifty favorite herbaceous plant! Dawn is a Research Associate at Stephen F Austin in Nacogdoches, TX and currently maintains the Mast Arboretum plant collection. A super-hardy plant with narrow, dark green leaves lining stems that stretch to 3' above the ground. At the top of these stems are large, daisy-like with reflexed purple rays drooping from an orange central disk, which becomes more conical with age. Blooms throughout the summer. Butterflies nectar on most varieties and birds love the dry seeds.
