Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Colorful perennials from corms hailing from South Africa that enjoy a baking hot location! Narrow, pointed foliage grows in winter followed by spikes of star-shaped flowers floating on wiry stems in jewel tones with contrasting darker eyes early summer. Water during growth/bloom season. Best DRY in summer>fall when dormant. Especially nice in Mediterranean gardens. Drought and critter resistant. Cut flowers.
Ixias are commonly known as "wand flowers" because their blossoms form along a slender, almost wiry, stems creating a wand of color. Opening from the bottom and progressing upwards, the tightly packed flowers sport six petals, and often, a dark contrasting eyezone.
