Nursery contributed plant descriptions

We acquired this one from some other place with this variety name and luckily we got two. One of them bloomed just "ordinary" orange-red, but one was in fact nearly red, much approved by our two resident hummingbird couples that fight over them. P. pinifolius is reportedly hardy to USDA zone 4 and successfully grown as far north as Wisconsin. Rather poor and especially well drained soil, low on organic matter would be essential for cold climates. Either way, it's very drought tolerant and heat resistant plant.
