Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Crocus sieberi ssp. sublimis 'Tricolor' has vivid, subtropical looking flowers in purple, with a white band and yellow throat visible on both sides of the petals. It is fragrant. Species, or snow crocus, are some of the first bulbs to emerge in the late winter, two weeks before other forms. They will grow anywhere grass does, but don't mow them until the foliage dies back.
Looking at the blooms, it's easy to see how crocus Tricolor got it's name; the pencil-gold base blends into bright white and then into a pretty purple. Decidedly jazzy and still ridiculously easy to grow. The petals on this crocus are softly pointed, not rounded and bowl-like which is typical for members of this family.
