Silver-grey leaves and clear, deep blue 5-petaled summer flowers in long slender spikes grace this 3' mounding Australian shrub. S/M/GDr (not dry)
Subshrub with semi-woody stems, rounded evergreen silver green leaves whorled on stems that reach 2’ tall and 3’ wide; terminal spikes of lavender blue April May, blooms on last years growth so don’t prune after June! Enjoys full sun & well drained soils on the dry side, so perfect for the rockery and gravel garden…occasional water preferred. A PNW Great Plant Picks selection! USDA Z7 4” pot
Light purple pendant bells all summer carried above handsome grey-green foliage. Tough and dependable in the perennial border or draping over a wall. Sun to part shade, regular water.
Evergreen shrub with 2' stems that rise from a narrow base. Broad, triangular blue-green leaves clasp together on the narrow stems that seem to grow directly through the leaves. In summer, drooping clusters of lavender-blue flowers bloom at the shoot tips. Shear back old stems for several waves of growth and bloom. Plants in our garden have done well in the understory of mature Eucalyptus globulus. Blue Mountains of Australia.
With its clasping & strikingly blue grey foliage, Parahebe perfoliata looks just like a miniature Eucalyptus until it surprises the gardener by terminating the stems with clusters of small lavender blue flowers. It blooms in late Spring to early Summer & if you deadhead the stems, it will bloom again in late Summer & Fall. When needed you can cut it down to the ground to rejuvenate the plant. A sub-shrub usually grown as a clumping perennial, Parahebe grows 1-4’ tall & up to 3’ wide. It grows well in poor soil as well as in good garden soil, thus adaptable to many garden settings. Interestingly, this Eucalyptus look-alike shares habitat with Eucalyptus in New South Wales, Australia, thus it is a good candidate for gardens under Eucalyptus trees. Best in full sun & with average water though it becomes drought tolerant when established. It tolerates brief cold snaps down to 15°F but becomes less hardy after 3 years.
Technically, a sub-shrub with semi-woody stems, it's still best treated as a perennial. With evergreen foliage of rounded blue-grays leaves, it makes a handsome foliage plant but the blue, arching somewhat Veronica-like blooms produced in April and May definitely make it look like a perennial rather than a shrub. It's low growing with a graceful arching habit and looks great at the front of the border. It's root hardy, so even if it dies completely back to ground, will come back from the roots. Prune/shape immediately after flowering as it blooms on old wood.

The so-called "Dark Strain" which seems indistinguishable to us. This laughed at 9 degrees and grew away like mad! Rocking Eucalyptus-like blue-gray perfoliate leaves on decumbent stems terminating in loose clusters of small bluish flowers. In the top tier of subshrubs for sure.
Looks like a Euclyptus with lavender flowers! Great foliage. Prune after flowering for shape.
