Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Widespread throughout elevations just above the low desert of southern Arizona, this species is called “Chain-fruit Cholla” because more fruits develop on the end of existing fruits, which is rather interesting. It has an upright habit to 6 - 10' (occasionally 15'!) looking like a slightly less cuddly teddy bear cholla. The deep pink flowers open in the afternoon and remain open through the night! Hardy to about 15 °F, lower in dry climates.  DS.
