Glinting golden foliage with silvery veins really sets off the electric blue flowers in this prickly perennial. Straight up stems to 2’ tall above neat clumps bloom in early summer attract bees and butterflies. Appreciates good soil drainage, full sun and a little water when dry. Drought tolerant, deer and critter resistant. Also enjoys coastal conditions. Nice in arrangements (wear your gloves)
Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' is the first sea holly with totally gold leaves. The small, egg shaped clusters of blue-violet flowers are subtended by variegated yellow and blue bracts and grow profusely on every stem (which are also blue) that are held aloft over the gold foliage. Gorgeous!
An exciting new development in Eryngiums: blue, thistle-like summer flowers are surrounded by golden-chartreuse foliage, making the perfect backdrop for these long-lasting blooms. Happy with little water once established, its strength and color make it a good choice for the rock garden or a mixed container. It actually performs better in poor, infertile soil. Allow the soil to dry between thorough waterings. 18-24" tall and clumping. Minimum temperature: -20 °F
