Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Native to scrubby slopes in central China this important non-climbing species, with its fragrant hyacinth-like monoecious flowers belongs in every garden. It is best treated as a herbaceous perennial, charming visitors with it's invasive fragrance, swallowtail butterflies seem quite attracted by its clusters of small tubular flowers.
Not a climber. This clump forming shrubby clematis dies down each Winter to an underground rootstock. In the Spring stiff stems supporting large leaves, each composed of three oak-like leaflets, emerge to form a dense shrub-like mound to be topped in late Summer and Autumn by clusters of bright blue, sweetly perfumed, tubular flowers. Cut back to ground level in Winter after the leaves drop. Can be lightly trimmed in early Summer to encourage more compact growth and more flowers. Beautiful in foliage, flower and scent, this Clematis is a must for any shady garden.

Short clusters of deep-blue hyacinth-like flowers nod from this 2-3' sub-shrub during summer; wonderful for containers or borders. Sun-PSh/Med/GdDrain
This shrubby perennial bears clusters of rich blue half inch flowers atop a robust show of foliage. Each flower is only one half inch long, but the clusters make a good show of color in a perennial border. Non-Vining, Herbaceous. Eastern China, 1837. Clematis heraclefolia has very good shade tolerance!
