Dryopteris pulcherrima is a recently introduced evergreen fern species with rich green, elegantly arched, triangular fronds. They have a light, airy appearance and extraordinary heat tolerance. Ferns thrive in neutral to acidic, loose, richly organic soil. Excellent for mass plantings, rock gardens, containers, in woodlands, and naturalized landscapes.
With a specific name meaning most beautiful, they form of Wood Fern come within high praise. Native to the Himalayas with an upright habit, it grows to 18-24". Evergreen and deer resistant.

Newly introduced evergreen fern from China which we hope to see fall of 2015 when we go plant hunting in its native Anhui Province. The species epithet "pulcherimma", means "Beautiful" in Latin although this was named by a taxonomist so it could mean it has gorgeous scales on the rachis under serious magnification. Seriously, It is a looker and very heat tolerant which is increasingly becoming an attribute.
