Originally named at University of Washington Arboretum. This wonderful big tree will be pyramid shaped as a young plant and eventually make a broad tree. The flowers are white by the thousands. The new growth is beautiful purple. Great yellow fall color.
Very hardy-the rootstock of choice for a rich palette of new hybrids. These liners have an extensive root system - a bonus for field planting or potting up.
Kewensis is the grex for the cross kobus x salicifolia, Wada has been around since 1959 and is a classic, precocious flowering with 7" white flowers and new leaves that emerge red and gradually change to green, this will eventually become a large tree.
6", fragrant, white blooms are borne in spring just before the nearly black-green foliage emerges in early spring. A vigorous, sometimes upright growing young tree maturing to a rounded specimen 25'H x 25'W.
Nodding, fragrant white flowers, to 7"across are often abundant ; often produced at a "young" age; in the meantime, the young growth of this small (20-30' x 20) tree is an eye-catching red. (M.kobus X M.salicifolia). SUN/Med
In March and April this young, precocious bloomer yields, drooping, 7" white blooms that are deliciously fragrant. Blooms at age 10. New leaves emerge red, becoming green as they mature. A vigorous grower, it grows narrowly upright to 20-25', achieving a pyramidal shape. Prefers sun with partial shade. Named for the esteemed nurseryman K. Wada of Japan.
