A striking upright shrub for specimen, back of border or container, its leaves emerge a soft pale green before aging to nearly jet black on this columnar 6't x 3'w elderberry which produces wonderful pink and white summer flower clusters and dark purple-black berries. S-PSh/M
Best new shrub in a long time! Gorgeous COLUMN of celery green, bold serrated foliage in spring, aging to almost purple-black by summer. Umbels of pink flowers show well against the dark leaves in summer, turning to shining black elderberries by fall. 6-8’ tall and 3-4’ wide, this baby fits almost anywhere! Sun to light shade, most soils, occasional to regular water. We are so pleased to finally have found some to offer!
Sambucus nigra Black Tower (aka Licorice Stix) is an amazing columnar addition to the elderberries with strongly upright stems 6-8 feet tall and only 3-4 feet wide covered in lush, serrated, purple-black foliage similar to 'Black Beauty'. Flat-topped clusters of pink and white, self-fertile flowers in early summer followed by purple-black, edible berries. More fruit is produced if a different cultivar is also present. Tolerant of moist sites.
This Elderberry has the same dramatic black foliage as 'Black Beauty' or 'Black Lace' but with an unusual columnar habit. Clusters of tiny, light pink with dark pink flowers all summer. Flower clusters turn to dark berries in fall. Great for smaller spaces!
