Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Dark-wine, fine-textured foliage highlighted by pink-white early summer flowers and a more compact (to 5-6') habit recommend this fine border or foundation shrub highly. S/M (not dry)
Cross between Physocarpus o. 'Diabolo' and 'Nana.' Summer Wine has dark foliage and a compact growing habit. The attractive wine colored leaves will turn a pale yellow in fall. Pretty clusters of white flowers with a blush of pink will cover the shrub in early summer. Growth Rate fast
A miniature version of 'Diablo', a result of Spring Meadows uncontrolled cross between Diablo and a dwarf form of opulifolius, compact growing with excellent dark purple leaves, it is the best Physocarpus currently in the nursery trade (Dale has a couple sister seedlings that are every bit as nice if not nicer).
A compact version of Physocarpus with dark wine, fine-textured foliage and pink-white blooms in early summer. While it's a strong grower, it's more well-behaved. Beautiful next to yellow or dark green plants. This is a dramatic improvement over other Ninebarks! Similar to parent, Diablo, but is more compact & is well-branched enough to grow in a container. Gets it's fine texture from the other parent, Physocarpus ‘Nana’. The peeling bark of Ninebark is VERY attractive. The species is a Plants of Merit - Missouri Botanical Garden. PP14821

Dark maroon leaves, turn reddish in fall. Light pink flowers summer, prune to mange size. Zones 3-9.
A compact version of 'Diablo' (which we have all found out gets much taller than initially reported), 'Summer Wine' forms a 5-6' shrub with dark wine fine-textured foliage and pink-white flower clusters in early summer.
A smaller growing purple-leafed selection just recently made available. Finer foliage than the species creating a more graceful plant in the landscape. Mixes well with arching, lighter foliages shrubs or perennials like Filipendula ulmaria 'Aurea' or Caryopteris 'Worcester Gold.'

P. 'SEWARD' PPAF - This purple (more purple-bronze) foliaged nine bark has leaves more divided than P. 'Diablo'. This plant is much smaller (3') than P. 'Diablo', so can grow in even small perennial or shrub borders. Flowers are pinkish white in early summer.
