Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Baptisia 'Lunar Eclipse' has dramatic spires of oversized, lupine-like May flowers that turn from creamy white to lavender-blue as they age followed by ornamental black seed pods. Baptisia are long-lived and will adapt to a wide range of soils from dry to marginal and salty but dislike being moved once established. Choose a place well and they will grow into a vase-shaped anchor plant, maturing to shrub size at 3' by 3'.
Can't decide between white and blue. 'Lunar Eclipse' is from the Chicagoland series. and is a cross of various Baptisia: alba, austrais, leucophaea and tinctoria. What we get are flowers whose buds start white and mature through shades of violet blue along the spire. Plants, although slow at first will will grow approx. 3' tall and 4' wide. Easy, long lived and deer resistant.
Tall spikes of pea-type, oversized blossoms are held high above the foliage. Blooms emerge a light lemon-over-cream color and age dramatically – first to cream, then, top to bottom of the spike, light to medium violet. Somewhat open form, 2 1/2' T & W.
Those searching for a dependable, long-lived, low maintenance perennial, seek no further! This new hybrid of native baptisia from the Prairieblues™ series has “wowed” all those who have grown it. Color shifting from cream to midnight blue, its large flower wands bloom in early summer over pristine blue-green foliage. Tap-rooted, it should be planted where it will stay for many bountiful years.
