Colorful as well as handsome, this compact, spreading and flat-topped when young. If a central leader is allowed to take it will eventually form a 20' irregularly pyramidal tree (it will stay much shorter if the leader is pruned out). This unique cultivar offers needles that are bright silver-blue underneath, green on top, and yellow where most exposed; its cones emerge a pretty purple-red which look beautiful against the needles. A fabulous evergreen which can be grown as a flat-topped shrub through pruning or can be grown as a broad, pyramidal tree by leaving the central leader intact. Needles are light green on top with silvery-blue beneath. Upper needle surfaces are tinted yellow. Pendant-shaped cones are purple when young, then mature to brown.
Picea bicolor 'Howell's Dwarf' - The most colorful of all Alcock's Spruces this cultivar boasts needles with bright, silver-blue undersides, green tops and a tint of yellow on the most exposed surfaces. A flat-topped bush when young, it eventually develops into a pyramidal tree, or you can maintain its flat form by removing upward shoots that start from rose-purple buds.
Rounded and spreading with enchanting little purple cones that really stand out on the blue-green foliage. Slowly growing to 4' tall and 6' across in 15 years.
