Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Spring's new growth has needles that strongly twist around the branches, showing the brilliant white undersides. Its incredibly slow growth rate is a result of its origin as a witch's broom discovered on an already-slow-growing tree with similarly curved
Icebreaker' is a gorgeous dwarf Korean Fir variety that only grows to about two feet tall and wide and features a ghostly white frame due to the needles that twist upwards over the top of each branch. The upside down needles feature the waxy-white underside which is normally not noticeable on typical Korean Fir trees. There are very few other plants that match the unique color, especially year-round.
Like the species, 'Icebreaker' is very cold hardy and prefers cool summers. In hot climates (like our nursery) these trees will grow much better with some afternoon shade and protection from high summer winds. The roots prefer well drained soil and do best if mulched lightly each year. Little to no pruning is required to keep a uniformly round shape.
This glorious dwarf conifer has curled needles similar to A. koreana'Silberlocke'. The plant has its needles turn totally around the stems creating a white and green effect.
Eye-catching silvery-blue recurved needles on dense, compact plants are quite the stellar attraction! Very slow growing; 1' x 1' in 10 years. Excellent rock garden plant.
Narrowly spaced strongly-curled, gray-green needles showing silvery undersides. Growing at a rate of 1-3 inches a year will be about 2 x 2 feet in 10 years. May develop a leader as it ages which can be removed to retain its globose shape. This sport was found by Jorg Kohout of Elstra, Germany on a 'Horstmann's Silberlocke'. Selected by the ACS Collectors Conifer of the Year Program in 2014.
A miniature Korean Fir with a dwarf spreading habit. Compact foliage is silvery-blue due to the undersides of recurved needles. Originated as a witchs broom from Silberlocke in Germany.
