Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Long lived bulbous perennials with naked, leafless stems to 24” emerging August Sept, topped with large pink clusters of lightly fragrant funnel shaped flowers…leaves come up only AFTER the flowers have faded. Foliage lasts thru the rainy winter into spring, then do a disappearing act for summer. These South Africans enjoy a sunny hot spot and loamy soil which is dry in summer. Bulbs get huge and offset freely. Thrives on neglect! Critter resistant. Great Plant Picks selection. USDA Z8 (Z7 with mulch)
Naked ladies emerge in late summer and fall with leafless reddish purple stems 2-3 feet high topped with 6-12 fragrant, glowing pink, trumpet-shaped flowers up to 3-4 inches long and wide. Foliage is produced in fall, winter, or early spring going dormant by summer. Loves dry, hot summers. Amaryllis belladonna is a true Amaryllis, the others grown during the holiday season being Hippeastrum.
Fragrant trumpets mixed colors!
A super-tough South African bulb that needs little introduction, found in every old and or abandoned garden, in rubbish tips or on roadsides, wherever it has been planted/dumped. The large brown, papery bulbs are able to survive sitting on top of the ground or through extended droughts, contractile roots enable them to plant themselves slowly pulling them down to their preferred depth. Do them a favour by planting them with their necks just showing above the soil surface in any soil that does not get too wet, in any position except the densest shade. I always find the sight of the fat buds poking from bare soil the herald of Autumn and rain.Give your garden instant authenticity by planting as many as possible.

Blooms: summer-fall, pink, fragrant/ strap like, spring foliage Zone 7-9. 18"-24", South Africa, sun, moist-dry, well drained
A choice and deliciously fragrant flowering bulb to perfume the late summer garden with abundant light to dark pink trumpets on dark stems, to 18-24” tall -- “naked” since the strappy leaves that appeared in winter have died back during the summer. Definitely a beautiful lady. Best in a Mediterranean climate with summer heat, good drainage and very little summer water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8 and in zone 7 with a bit of mulch.
