Aloe perfoliata is an evergreen cactus / succulent with blue and green foliage. In fall and summer orange, pink and red flowers emerge. Features glaucous texture. Attracts beneficial insects and hummingbirds. Grows well with sun - dappled shade and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer, dry in winter. Does well in gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant and verticillium wilt resistant.
Aloe mitriformis, now known as Aloe perfoliata, is a robust succulent native to the Cape mountains of South Africa. It forms clumps of rosettes with thick, fleshy leaves that curve inward, resembling a mitre. The leaves are bluish-green, turning reddish in dry conditions, and edged with small white teeth. It produces striking red tubular flowers arranged densely on branched stalks, flowering mainly in summer. This species thrives in well-drained, sandy soils with full sun exposure and mild to hot summers. It's drought-tolerant but susceptible to scale insects and aphids, which can be managed with proper care and maintenance. While it can tolerate temperatures down to 5 degrees Celsius, it's best brought indoors during winter in cooler climates. Aloe mitriformis is ideal for rock gardens, embankments, and retaining walls, where its fast-growing, ground-covering nature adds interest with its vibrant flowers and spiky foliage.
This plant has been grown in a 3ga pot. You will receive a very similar plant to the one in the picture. The plant is shipped "dry-root" (with out soil).
