One of the hardiest scheffleras that have come into cultivation recently (along with delavayi and taiwaniana). Native to the temperate rainforests of the Chinese/Vietnamese frontier, this species has proven to be remarkably hardy, having survived for more than ten years in the ground in my own backyard garden. The original plant (grown from seed collected in the wild in 1995) is now almost twenty feet in height. These seedlings are grown from seed collected from this plant. The large leaflets have a brownish indumentum beneath. Umbels of small flowers followed by purple-black berries.
