Aloe africana is an evergreen cactus / succulent with green foliage. In spring, summer and winter orange, red and yellow flowers emerge. Features glaucous texture. Attracts bees, beneficial insects and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in winter. Does well in average, gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant, seaside / salt tolerant, verticillium wilt resistant and wind tolerant.
Aloe africana is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, having the capability to adapt to various climates. Its single stem is topped with a rosette of waxy, blue-toned leaves that may reach up to 13 ft (4 m) tall, all complemented with red-hued spines. Drawing pollinators from near and far, a crown of yellow flowers adorns the top of the plant. An ideal candidate for coastal gardens or outdoor containers, Aloe africana grows best in full sun and windy areas.
