Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This is a compact growing species with small and shiny, rounded leaves and masses of small but showy, flat flowers (late spring) ranging in color from white to pale pink or deep rose, often with purple spots. Bright reddish-purple new growth on this incredibly widespread and variable species. Much hardier than would be expected based upon its native range in southern China. These are grown from seed collected in the wild. Similar in the garden to its close relative ovatum , differing in botanical details.
