Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Leaves, who needs those? This plant starts out looking like a mass of slender dark green twigs, but grows rapidly ultimately making a small tree to 25' under good conditions. Its attractively weeping, leafless, green branchlets vaguely recall those of Genista aetensis, perhaps; but with a denser and often picturesque habit of growth. Inconspicuous flowers result in tough woody, geometrically patterned "cones" yielding seeds which, you will be thrilled to know, are the favorite food of the Glossy Black Cockatoo. It will grow on poor soil and is an efficient nitrogen fixer. From temperate regions of Southeast Australia, including Tasmania; it is one of the hardier members of the Casuarinaceae: we expect it to handle temperatures to at least 15°F and perhaps below.
